Green Girl Basics believes in a cause as much as profit. We make natural cruelty free, biodegradable and handmade toiletries. We educate through classes, offering a DIY green alternative to commercial consumerism. We buy our supplies in bulk and pass on fair pricing on packaging, and raw materials to other handmade toiletry makers. Our soaps, lotions, lip balms and lotion sticks are all made by hand with quality and care. We use the finest food grade vegetable oils, herbs, essential oils, fragrance and colorants. We keep our products mild and natural for those with sensitive or problem skin. In all our years in business, we have not received one complaint of our products causing skin irritation.

Green Girl Basics was founded in 1999. We believe that a business can succeed while still embracing compassion for animals, the environment and people. I started out as an animal rightís activist in 1995. I joined forces with lots of activist groups along with my Kent State University campus organization... We did a lot of traveling, protesting, civil disobedience, getting arrested (to get media attention towards our plight), educating and the like. I was very dedicated to the cause and still am. I have a very different way of contributing to my efforts today. I shifted my role because the media focuses on the one moron who is smashing a police car or other non peaceful modalities. All punk rockery aside, I realized my own way to make a difference. By creating cruelty free alternatives for consumers who care about animals and the environment, I am able to live by example, and promote green, environmentally sustainable DIY lifestyles. I take pleasure in offering education to those interested in using and/ror making natural products.

Green Girl Basics answers questions like:
What is the difference between natural and commercial toiletries?
How can I make my own soap?
Which companies can I support who DO NOT test on animals?
What is the big deal about testing cosmetics on animals? Isnít it necessary by law?
How is it possible to use and make products with ingredients that I can pronounce?
Do you use human fat in your soap? Raid any liposuction clinics lately? (Sorry, but I could not resist the Fight Club reference. I hear this A LOT.)

We employ our mission by:
-Following the Corporate Standard of Compassion for Animals set forth by the Coalition for Consumer Information on cosmetics. As a member of the CCIC, our products are backed by eight national animal protection groups, representing over 10 million supporters and members and two international coalitions. You will see Green Girl Basics listed on every cruelty free shopping guide in this network. To view a cruelty free shopping guide please visit www.leapingbunny.org.
-Employing women who are providing for themselves and/or children.
-Buying within the USA and/or locally when possible.
-Recycling and reusing as much as possible. We work with our local natural foods co op to reuse their incoming boxes and packing peanuts. Not only does this save us money, (which in turn keeps our products affordable), we are not contributing to depleting as many natural resources by buying new.
-Adding "Tested on Humans" to all our product labels.
-Supporting other independently owned business and bartering products/services with others.
